IAM-GKN Negotiations Update | January 12, 2016

The Negotiating Committee would like to thank you for your solidarity and support as they continue working toward bargaining a contract worthy of a vote on Sunday, January 24.

As the focus turns to economic issues, to date, your Committee has brought forth a number of proposals aimed at moving both the IAM Local 387 membership and GKN forward. Unfortunately, the proposals as submitted by the company thus far are aimed at achieving the complete opposite.

The GKN delegation has proposed such contract language as splitting classifications, which threatens to dilute seniority for approximately half our bargaining unit. They’ve proposed an every other year general wage increase that only applies to a small percentage of the bargaining unit. The company has yet to agree to fold in the COLA. GKN has also proposed an insignificant increase in the pension multiplier and an increase in employee health care costs.

Their proposals can only be described as regressive.

Negotiations are still ongoing. But as your Negotiating Committee continues the fight at the negotiating table, we urge your support on the shop floor. Tell your supervisors: It’s time the GKN negotiating team gets serious.

Join us for your Local Lodge meeting on Saturday, January 16 at 10 am at the District 837 hall, where your Negotiating Committee will provide updates and answer questions.

The contract vote will take place Sunday, January 24 at the Plumbers & Pipefitter 562.

For updates on the negotiations, visit the www.iam387.org website or follow the IAM Local 387 Facebook page.

In Solidarity,
